9 - 8/27/2017 - Ephraim, Utah to Baker, Nevada. 210 Miles

I apologize for the delay in continuing my story. As often happens, life got in the way. The last couple of years have been tough, but it is time to continue my tale, we are only 1/2 way there! I am dedicating this to my dad, he enjoyed reading about our adventure! I only wish I could have finished telling this story to him.....

After a great night's sleep, we left Ephraim at 8:30am. The trail headed up into the hills, we went over a small pass that was up in the trees of Big Baldy mountain. From there, the trail dropped back down to the desert floor. We rode through several small agricultural towns and then many, many miles without seeing another soul. Very desolate landscape with nothing as far as the eye can see and 95-degree heat again! After what seemed like an eternity, we came upon a really pretty salt Playa. We spent some time goofing off, racing and roosting around on the smooth salt pan, then made our final push to Baker, NV. Once we arrived in Baker, we stopped at the "Border Inn", a Restaurant/Casino/Convenience store/Motel/Gas Station/RV Park. What more could we need! We got a room at the motel which was clean and comfortable but a little sketchy. It was in a modular type of building and looked like the scene of one of those scary movies like "Joy Ride"!! We went to the restaurant for dinner and drinks, they have an Open Face Roast Beef Sandwich dinner that was the best I've ever had! Mmmmm, meat and potatoes! (Went back there a couple of years ago to get another one!) Baker, NV sits right on the border of Nevada and Utah, on highway 50, "The Loneliest Road in America". They aren't kidding! We stood in the middle of the road taking pictures for quite a while, not a single car or truck came from either direction! We called it a night pretty early as tomorrow will be a big day, we need to ride 300 miles!

Great views as we headed over the pass

On the way back down to the desert floor

Cooling off in the beer cave in one of the small towns we stopped in. Maybe Delta, UT?

Nothing but desolation (and a pee stop!)

Doesn't sound good!

And of course, that's the direction we were headed!!

Beautiful scenery and you can see the Playa in the distance!

The salt pan! It's as smooth as riding down the freeway!
Me, goofing off on the salt!

It seemed like we would never see civilization again!

Civilization at last!

The spooky hotel!

Cute western-themed restaurant, home of the world's best Roast Beef Sammich!!

Gorgeous sunset!
